Well built performance cruiser, Ideal for upwind sailing!
The Piewiet 1200 was designed and built for the OSTAR, so it is a boat made for upwind sailing. It is quite narrow for its length, especially for this purpose. It is very stiff under sail with a leadkeel which is laminated and bolted to the hull. There are no leaks in the bilges.
The first owner bought the boat new from the Van de Rest shipyard in Kats, Holland, and finished the interior himself between '96 and '98 as he was a carpenter.
The boat is form the second owner and he has owned the boat for 9 years. All frames and shelves are laminated. There is no noise in the boat while underway except for the sound of the waves. The construction is very solid.
Due to illness, the architect Van Der Rest was unable to participate in the OSTAR, and the shipyard built 12 examples of this hull. The first three were exported to Japan in a 40' container. The reason for its length of 11.85 m is advantageous for ports. The boat is stiff, fast, safe, cozy, and comfortable. It measures 11.85 x 3.45 x 2.00 m and can accommodate 7 people.
